The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), announced this Thursday (23) that the plenary of the House should vote, by the end of the month, on the bill that prohibits charging for hand luggage on commercial flights in Brazil.
According to Motta, there will be a “concentrated effort” until October 30th to analyze proposals considered priorities, including measures on public safety, health and the fight against counterfeiting of food and drinks, in addition to the text that deals with air luggage.
“I have already included on the agenda the project that makes counterfeiting and adulteration of food and drinks a heinous crime (PL 2307/07) and also the one that prohibits charging for hand luggage on flights (PL 5041/25)”, stated the president of the Chamber in a post on social media.

The rapporteur of the proposal, deputy Neto Carletto (Avante-BA), informed that he should present his opinion on Tuesday (28), with a vote scheduled for the following day (29).
Carletto said that there is coordination between the Chamber and Senate to speed up the approval of the text. One, and the two proposals may be unified during processing.
“There is the possibility of joining one project to the other, but there is already dialogue with the Senate so that the matter can move forward urgently”, stated the rapporteur.

The ban on charging for hand luggage is a topic that has frequently returned to Congress’s agenda since the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) authorized airlines to charge for checked bags in 2017.
Parliamentarians argue that the measure did not result in a reduction in ticket prices, a promise made at the time by the companies.
