Venezuelan president classified these operations as threats and harassment, and assures that they seek his downfall
The president said, this Wednesday (22), that the It has 5,000 Russian-made portable anti-aircraft missiles to defend the country when it detects a military threat from the United States. “Any military force in the world knows the power of the Igla-S and Venezuela has nothing more and nothing less than 5,000 Igla-S in key anti-aircraft defense posts to guarantee peace,” said Maduro in a televised event, accompanied by members of the military high command.
Maduro classified these operations as threats and harassment, and assures that they seek his downfall. After sending a flotilla of destroyers, vessels with special forces on board and a submarine to the Caribbean Sea, on September 2, the United States began an unprecedented series of attacks against what they classify as “narco-terrorist” boats coming from Venezuela.
The Igla-S is a portable anti-aircraft defense system designed to shoot down planes, helicopters and drones at low altitude. It is disposable and cannot be reloaded once fired. The missile has already been used in military exercises ordered by Maduro in response to the American military deployment. According to Maduro, the Venezuelan Armed Force has simulation systems that put them in a “situation of good aim of thousands of Iglas-S operators”. They are in “key anti-aircraft defense positions to guarantee peace, stability and tranquility for our people”, he added.
Trump declared this Wednesday that he is preparing attacks against drug traffickers who operate by land. “We are going to hit them very hard when they come over land, they haven’t experienced that yet,” he said. Maduro denounced that Venezuela faces “the most lethal military threat” in history.
