The Prime Minister of , , rejected this Wednesday (22) the idea that the country is a “client state” of. In a joint statement with the American vice-president, JD Vence, during a visit to Jerusalem, the prime minister classified the statement as “pure nonsense” and highlighted that the relationship between the two nations is one of “partnership, not dependence”.

The declaration came amid a moment of diplomatic tension between the two historic allies. Netanyahu criticized what he called “incoherent narratives” about the alliance, stating that “one week they say that Israel is submissive to the United States; the next, that it is Israel that controls Washington.”

JD Vence reinforced the conciliatory tone and declared that the United States “does not want a client state, but a partner”. The vice president’s visit is part of the so-called “phase two” of the peace plan proposed by Washington, in partnership with countries such as Qatar and Egypt, which envisages the gradual reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. The first stage of the agreement, already underway, includes the partial withdrawal of Israeli troops and the sending of humanitarian aid supervised by the UN.

Despite attempts to stabilize, the climate in the region remains unstable. Former American President Donald Trump once again stated that he is willing to send troops to the Gaza Strip if Hamas — classified as a terrorist group by the US and Israel — violates the peace agreement. According to White House sources, the statement refers to a possible regional coalition with Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates to guarantee the security and reconstruction of the Palestinian territory. Israel receives between US$3 billion and US$4 billion in American military aid annually, but the Israeli government has sought to reinforce its autonomy in strategic security decisions.
