The Estilo Brasil Festival, held by Metropolisespromotes one of the most powerful meetings of the year: Sérgio Hinds, founder of the band O Terço, joins Beto Guedes and Wagner Tiso on stage at the Ulysses Centro de Convenções, on October 25, for the “Esquinas & Canções” tour. The show marks the fusion between progressive rock and Minas Gerais lyricism — two forces that shaped Brazilian sound in the 1970s.

Self-taught and visionary, Hinds is recognized as one of the country’s great guitar players. His unique style, which combines technique and intuition, placed him among the 70 Brazilian Guitar and Guitar Masters, according to Rolling Stone Brasil. Without formal musical training, he built his career on the basis of curiosity and sensitivity — a musician who, as he himself often says, learned by “listening and feeling”.

Founded in 1968, the band O Terço was born under censorship: the original name, Os Libertos, was vetoed, and even “Santíssima Trindade” was banned before the group chose the definitive title. Still, the vigorous and experimental sound of Hinds and his troupe paved the way for Brazilian progressive and rural rock, immortalized in albums such as Criaturas da Noite (1975) and Casa Encantada (1976).

Decades later, the dialogue between O Terço and Clube da Esquina remains natural. “This connection has always existed”, says Hinds, remembering that Flávio Venturini — one of the Club’s musicians — joined his band in the 1970s.

“Progressive rock and Minas Gerais music draw from erudite sources, and this creates a very unique chemistry”, he explains.

In the repertoire of the “Esquinas & Canções” tour, the public in Brasília will be able to hear O Terço hits such as “Hey Amigo”, “Pássaro” and “Queimada”, in addition to the Minas Gerais classics that marked generations. The fusion of these sounds reveals not only a musical affinity, but also a celebration of boldness — of artists who, each in their own way, reinvented the sound of Brazil.

In addition to his career with O Terço, Hinds has collaborated with names such as Ivan Lins, Jorge Ben Jor, Walter Franco and Marcos Valle, always moving between the experimental and the popular. Among his memorable memories is a performance with Os Mutantes at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo: “a psychedelic delirium of guitars and colors”, as he describes it.

Now, at the Estilo Brasil Festival, Hinds’ meeting with Beto Guedes symbolizes more than nostalgia: it is a gesture of continuity. Three distinct trajectories that, together, reaffirm the vitality of Brazilian music — a conversation between guitar, poetry and time. Tickets are available on the website.

The Estilo Brasil Festival is hosted by Banco do Brasil Estilo, sponsored by BB Visa Cards, Banco do Brasil and the Federal Government. The realization is Metropolisesproduced by Oh! Arts.
