From the west, a cold front should move through the territory of Slovakia, which is connected to a deep, even extensive pressure trough. In connection with it, meteorologists expect windy and rainy weather. At the moment, however, they do not anticipate that level two warnings should be issued. Meteorologist Cyril Siman of the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informed about this at Thursday’s briefing.
Meteorologists expect stronger winds especially in the south-west of Slovakia, then occasionally also in the north of the territory in lower positions, but also on the mountains above the forest zone. It should blow more strongly especially on Thursday. In the first half of the night, the wind in the south-west of Slovakia could reach a local speed of around 70 km/h, and should gradually weaken. They are expecting a gale in the mountains, the wind should also weaken towards morning.
“So far, it really looks like we’ll fit into that first level of alert. But you have to be careful,” noted Siman. They also issued warnings for rain. “At night, we expect precipitation in practically the entire territory,” stated Siman. Approximately five to 20 mm of rain should fall, especially in central Slovakia it may be even more, locally 20 to 40 mm. It should rarely be more than 50mm.
During the weekend, the situation should calm down, the cold front will gradually move to the east. The snow line should drop on Thursday night, on Friday (October 24) it should be at an altitude of 1400 or 1300 meters, on Friday they expect snowfall from approximately 1200 m. It should be the same on the weekend.
As for the air temperature, it will reach roughly “normal values.” Although the weather is still very warm in some places on Thursday, over the weekend it could be a maximum of ten to 15 degrees Celsius, in the north around 8 degrees Celsius. The night temperature should also not be significantly low, it will mostly be above 0 degrees Celsius.
