Cleaning tombstones before November 1

All Saints’ Day is a special event in our tradition. On November 1, Poles visit the graves of their loved ones and pray for the souls of the deceased. In many Polish homes, preparations for celebrating the holiday begin a few days earlier, when Poles go to cemeteries to clean the graves of their loved ones. When cleaning, we throw away used candles, withered flowers or old ones. We also tidy up the area around the grave and, most importantly, clean the tombstone. How to do it quickly and effectively? First of all, you should choose a preparation that suits the material the board is made of, so as not to damage it. For cleaning tombstones, for example, water and dishwashing liquid are suitable. You can also use a homemade paste that will effectively remove dried dirt and leaf residue. How to prepare it?

Homemade paste for cleaning tombstones. How to make it?

Baking soda paste is irreplaceable when cleaning tombstones. It will work well both in and in those made of terrazzo. All you need to do is mix two ingredients: a package of baking soda and a few drops of water to create a thick paste. Take it to the cemetery along with a damp cloth and sponge. After getting rid of the leaves and other unnecessary things from the tombstone, rub the paste into the slab and scrub its surface thoroughly with a sponge or brush. Finally, collect the remnants of the paste with a cloth and pour water over the grave.

What to do to make a terrazzo tombstone shine?

Dishwashing liquid, baking soda and a soft brush will work perfectly on terrazzo floors. Scrub the tombstone with dishwashing liquid, and sprinkle baking soda on larger dirt. Pour plenty of water over the washed monument and dry it with a cotton cloth. Finally, protect the tombstone by polishing its surface with oil. It can be ordinary edible oil, e.g. coconut oil. Thanks to it, the grave will regain its shine and will be resistant to dirt.

How to remove wax and paraffin stains from a tombstone?

One of the most common dirt on a monument, which is also the most difficult to remove, is wax. you can remove it by using a mixture of water and vinegar. To do this, simply prepare a solution of 3 teaspoons of vinegar per 1 liter of water. Soak a sponge in it and rub the dirty area until the wax dissolves completely.
