US President Trump stalled negotiations with Canada, accusing it of misusing a Ronald Reagan quote. Canada plans to increase exports to other countries.

United States President Donald Trump on Thursday ended “all trade negotiations” with Canada. He accused Ottawa of misquoting former president Ronald Reagan in an ad campaign targeting US tariffs. TASR took over the report from the AFP and AP agencies.

  • Donald Trump has ended trade negotiations with Canada.
  • He accused Canada of misquoting Ronald Reagan.
  • Canada’s prime minister responded to the tariffs by expanding exports outside the US.

“The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada fraudulently used an ad that is FALSE in which Ronald Reagan talks negatively about tariffs… TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO NATIONAL SECURITY AND THE US ECONOMY. Based on their outrageous behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED,” Trump declared on Truth Social.

Decision after Canada’s announcement

The White House chief’s post came after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he intended to double exports of Canadian goods to countries outside the US because of the threat posed by Trump’s tariffs, AP reports.
