The reason was the IUB’s decision to support the creation of a rival parliamentary group, called the Business Environment Parliamentary Front. A launch lunch last Monday (20) brought together businesspeople and parliamentarians such as the former president of Arthur LIra (PP-AL).
The following day, deputy Joaquim Passarinho (PL-PA), president of FPE, formalized the break in a letter to the businessman
“We verified that the Institute is interested in seeking new paths, which is legitimate, but it implies the end of the cycle with FPE”, says Passarinho. The front formally has around 200 parliamentarians, the majority from right-wing and center-right parties, but around 30 are actually active.
To the Panel, Passarinho says he was surprised by the institute’s initiative to create the new front. “It was a blow to the back. I realized that they are not satisfied with our work, so it is better for everyone to go their own way, without resentment”, he stated.
The Institute provided a house in Brasília to hold meetings every Tuesday, as well as lunches and debates with ministers and other authorities. He also paid a secretary at the front and lent his technical assistance to the group.
The front will now look for other partners. Privately, a person linked to FPE stated that it caused discomfort the fact that the new group being created had the participation of
of the Economic Freedom Law, debates on tax reform, the Business Environment Law and the extension of the payroll tax exemption.
When contacted, the IUB and businessman Nabil Sahyoun did not respond to the Panel’s contacts.
