In the Libertadores, LDU crossed paths with Brazilians and emerged happy from the clashes. In the round of 16, the team beat Botafogo and in the quarterfinals they defeated São Paulo, winning both the first and second leg. Adding up local competitions, LDU has not lost in five games: four wins and one draw.
In local tournaments, LDU reached the quarterfinals of the Copa Ecuador and is in second place in LigaPro, far from retaining the 2023 and 2024 titles, as it has 55 points, against 70 for Independiente del Valle.

LDU: absences and highlights
On Tuesday, LDU reported that its starting goalkeeper, Gonzalo Valle, had a serious knee injury and is out. He was one of the team’s main names in the classification against São Paulo, in the quarter-finals.
In his place will be Alexander Domínguez, 38 years old, who has not yet played in any Conmebol Libertadores match this edition. Domínguez has 22 games in 2025, most of them of minor importance.
Argentine striker Lisandro Alzugaray will also be out due to injury. Despite the important loss, the team can still count on one of the highlights. Michael Estrada is one of the team’s main names and shares the team’s top scorer with Alzugaray, with 11 goals each.
