EJP says that it has no official information on the whereabouts of 176 people detained and that, among the political prisoners, 48 Venezuelan citizens with dual nationality were identified.
Data released on October 20 by Fórum Penal (FP), an NGO known for providing free assistance to political prisoners in Venezuela, showed that 866 people are imprisoned for political reasons in Venezuela.
“Of the total number of political prisoners, 758 are men and 108 women, 693 are civilians and 173 military. 862 are adults and four teenagers” explains in X.
On the other hand, it states that it does not know the whereabouts of 28 political prisoners and that 97 of them have dual nationality, without providing further information on the detained foreigners.
In a message released three weeks ago, the FP reported that there were five Portuguese among those detained, all with dual nationality, Portuguese and Venezuelan.
“History of arrests for political reasons in Venezuela since 2014 to date: 18,532. The Penal Forum saw more than 14,000 released today”, he explains.
However, the FP states that more than 9,000 people continue to be arbitrarily subjected to measures restricting their freedom.
