Senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) told journalists this Thursday, 23rd, that the choice by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) of the name that will replace Luís Roberto Barroso in the Federal Supreme Court (STF) will be “evidently”, by him and by everyone, “respected as a decision by the President of the Republic”.
“It is very important to wait for the president’s decision, so it is very difficult to comment on this. There is a prerogative of the president to nominate, a role for the Senate in the evaluation, and it is very important that the steps are always carried out with a public spirit, republicanism, so that there is no need to rush into this”, he said.
Last week, Pacheco said he felt “honored” and “happy” to be considered for the Supreme Court. He also praised other names mentioned, such as the attorney general of the Union, Lula’s favorite for the position, and the minister of the Federal Court of Auditors Bruno Dantas, also considered.

“(Messias) is a good name. I had a good relationship with him, he is very well prepared, he also provides a good service for the Federal Attorney General’s Office. I have nothing but praise to give to Minister Jorge Messias, as well as to Minister Bruno Dantas”, he declared at the time.
The senator is also considered an option for the government of Minas Gerais, but has not yet confirmed whether he will run in the 2026 elections.
This Thursday, he stated that “the democratic field will have to reorganize itself” by the end of the year “to present good names for the government, the Senate and slates of federal deputies” in the State.

“As it stands, it’s not good. It needs to improve, Minas has to regain its role as a national leader,” said Pacheco.
