Pre-Hospital Emergency Technicians challenge Luís Cabral's appointment to INEM

The union of Pre-Hospital Emergency Technicians consider that Luís Cabral “does not have the skills” for the position and warns that he could go on strike if the new president to change the course of the established negotiations.

Rui Lázaro, president of the Union, says that Luís Cabraldefends a model absolutely contrary to what we have been negotiating with the Government and which has been implemented”.

Furthermore, highlights that the emergency system in the Azores, for which Luís Cabral is responsible, tem “bad results (…) the Court of Auditors itself in an audit that was released last year, cclassifies the system as slow to respond to medical emergencies and expensive. Remember that this system is six times more expensive than the system implemented on the continent and, as if that weren’t enough, it is much less effective”.

“Sérgio Janeiro was able to continue”

The union president emphasizes that, since the entry of Sérgio Janeiro and with the agreements established with the Government, it was possible “hire more technicians, reduce delays in answering calls, increase the number of ambulances available and continue the qualification process of INEM professionals”.

“Today we are now capable of carrying out more tasks, saving more lives, lives that would not have been saved if it had not been for Sérgio Janeiro’s work”.

The union criticizes the choice and guarantees that “does not find technical or operational justifications” for the appointment.

“We were surprised and were surprised by the Government with this dismissal.”

Rui Lázaro believes that the Government is creating “unnecessary instability” not INEM and warns that, if Luís Cabral changes the course of negotiations, “there will be contestation”. “The strike is on the table, obviously.”

“We want to continue on the path we agreed with the Minister of Health, of evolving the system. Here I want to remind you that we have already done salary appreciation. Right now it is not money that is on the table, nor our salary appreciation. At this moment, it is about providing more and better care to the Portuguese, which INEM and we can save more lives. If Luís Cabral calls this into question, we will no longer be able to negotiate and we will return to demanding actions.”
