Representatives of Palestinian movements, including those of the Palestinian Authority, who met on Thursday in Cairo, agreed today that an independent committee of technocrats should temporarily take over its government, following a ceasefire that has been in effect since October 10.
According to a statement posted on the Hamas website, the Palestinian organizations involved in the talks reached an agreement on the establishment of a “temporary Palestinian committee, composed of independent, technocratic residents” and key services.
Palestinian organizations also agreed on a national strategy aimed at “reviving the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.”
Hamas is not a member of the PLO.
