President claims to have traveled to Malaysia “with the intention” that a solution could be “found” for the tariff

The president (PT) said this Saturday (25.Oct.2025) that he hopes “what a roll” the meeting with the leader of the United States, (Republican Party), in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). The expectation is that the 2 (26.Oct) ​​in the late afternoon local time – morning in Brazil.

The meeting between Lula and Trump had been considered since September, when the 2 presidents spent less than 1 minute behind the scenes at the UN General Assembly in New York.

Lula and Trump on the phone for about 30 minutes on October 6th. According to Palácio do Planalto, the tone was friendly. The PT member highlighted that Brazil is one of the countries with which the USA maintains a trade surplus and requested the withdrawal of the policy applied to imported Brazilian products and against Brazilian authorities.

Following the negotiations, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, spent about 1 hour with the Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, on October 16 in Washington. After the meeting, the Brazilian chancellor declared to journalists that the meeting had been “very productive”.
