Slovaks, be careful! SHMÚ has issued warnings: there is a risk of a storm here on Sunday!

The mountains in several districts of northern Slovakia are threatened by a storm on Sunday (October 26). The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) drew attention to this on its website and issued level one warnings with provisional validity until Sunday midnight.

The wind in the mountains must be reckoned with Banská Bystrica, Prešov and Žilina regions. The warnings apply to the districts of Žilina, Martin, Banská Bystrica, Ružomberok, Dolný Kubín, Námestovo, Tvrdošín, Liptovský Mikuláš, Brezno and Poprad.

Meteorologists in these localities anticipate the occurrence of wind above the forest zone, which reaches a speed of 110 to 135 kilometers per hour in impacts and/or an average speed of up to 85 kilometers per hourwhich corresponds to the gale parameters. “The expected wind speed is normal for the given time of year and area, but it represents a potential danger for human activities (especially for hiking, mountain climbing, etc.),” ​​warns SHMÚ.
