The civilian arm of the US Gaza Ceasefire Monitoring Center will be led by career diplomat Steven Fagin. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointed him to this position on Friday. He will join U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Patrick Frank, who commands the center’s military arm. TASR informs about it according to the AFP agency. Fagin has served as the US ambassador to Yemen since 2022. Before that, he was deputy ambassador in Baghdad and also worked at the American Consulate General in Arbil in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.
The military-civilian coordination center was established by the United States after the conclusion of the cease-fire in the Gaza Strip on October 17. It is located in the southern Israeli city of Kiryat Gat and the task of its personnel is to supervise the observance of the ceasefire and ensure logistics, including the delivery of humanitarian aid to war-torn Gaza. About 200 American soldiers are deployed in the center, who cooperate with troops from Israel, European countries, as well as representatives of the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, the United Nations and humanitarian organizations.
