In the English city of Northampton, they confiscated more than 2,000 fake injectable slimming preparations. The Minister of Health warns of the dangers of using them.
More than 2,000 fake doses of injectable slimming products have been confiscated at a factory in Northampton, England. It is probably the biggest haul of its kind in the world, Sky News reported on Saturday, citing the Pharmacy magazine website.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) along with the police were involved in uncovering the illegal operation, which was manufacturing and distributing unlicensed products.
Secured products
The labels of the imitations state that they contain the active substances tirsepatide and retratutide. Other chemicals, equipment, tens of thousands of empty injection pens and £20,000 in cash were also found at the scene.
Police estimate the black market value of the counterfeits seized to be around £250,000.
The call of the Minister of Health
Britain’s Health and Social Affairs Minister Wes Streeting described the seizure of the fake drugs as “a victory in the fight against ruthless criminals who put lives at risk by selling dangerous and illegal weight loss injections to make a quick buck”.
According to Streeting, such illegal products pose a great risk to unsuspecting consumers. The minister therefore urged people not to buy weight loss drugs from unverified sources, as they are helping criminals who do not care about their health.
According to Pharmacy magazine, no one has been arrested in connection with the Northampton raid so far.
