Brazilian family separated at the airport, father had a work visa but wife did not

A Brazilian family was separated upon arrival in Portugal. The husband had a work visa, the wife and two children came to accompany him and were prevented from entering. They were held at the airport for almost four days and were deported this Saturday.

Last Wednesday, Gustavo Morais, his wife and two children – aged 1 and 8 – arrived in Lisbon from São Paulo. It was the first time and they came to work.

Gustavo had a work visa and a signed contract, his wife did not. She was held in the international area of the airport for almost four days. He explains that his youngest son is still breastfed and that, for that reason, he did not agree to stay in Portugal with just his children.

Gustavo Morais assures that in Brazil no one warned him that there was a risk that the family would not stay with him if only one member of the family had a work visa. They were left with nothing in Brazil to come and invest in a new life in Portugal.
