During the conversation with journalists, Trump was asked about the former Brazilian president and replied that he “always liked him” and that he “feels bad about what happened”, in reference to the (STF) in the case of the 2022 coup d’état attempt.
When asked whether the topic would be discussed in the meeting with Lula, the American president reacted: “It’s none of your business,” Trump replied, in a harsh tone.

Trump’s speech quickly resonated with allies of the former Brazilian president, who saw the gesture as a public demonstration of support. Already in government, the priority was to highlight the economic nature of the meeting between the two leaders, centered on the 50% tariffs imposed by Washington on Brazilian products.

The meeting between Lula and Trump, held in Kuala Lumpur, lasted around 50 minutes and was considered “positive and constructive” by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira.
According to the chancellor, the American president admitted that the surcharges were applied incorrectly and ordered the immediate start of bilateral negotiations to review the measures.
Behind the scenes, Brazilian diplomats claim that Trump did not impose political conditions to review the tariffs and that the atmosphere at the meeting was cordial, despite episodes of tension.
