Presidents of Brazil and the USA met for almost an hour this Sunday (Oct 26) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
The president (PT) said he had a meeting “frank and constructive” with the President of the United States, (Republican Party), this Sunday (Oct 26, 2025), in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). The meeting ended without the North American announcing the repeal of the 50% tariffs on imported Brazilian products. Trump, however, agreed to negotiate the rates.
“We discussed the bilateral trade and economic agenda in a frank and constructive manner. We agreed that our teams will meet immediately to move forward in finding solutions to tariffs and sanctions against Brazilian authorities”said Lula on X.
When speaking at the Brazil-Malaysia business meeting, which brings together businesspeople from both countries, Lula said the meeting “it seemed impossible in the United States and Brazil”.
Speaking to journalists, the executive secretary of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Márcio Elias Rosa, said that Lula “made it clear that the motivation used by the United States to impose increased tariffs on the rest of the world does not apply to Brazil due to the trade balance surplus” to the USA.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, stated that “The conclusion is that the meeting was very positive”. These: “We hope in a short time now, in a few weeks, to conclude a bilateral negotiation that deals with each of the sectors of current American taxation on Brazil”.
