Former US Vice President Kamala Harris does not rule out a re-candidacy for the presidency. According to her words, she has not yet made the decision to apply for this position, but she rejects claims that she would have little chance of success. She is also convinced that in the next few years a woman will sit in the White House, she said in an interview with the British station BBC. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.
“Maybe,” Harris answered when asked if she could one day become the first president of the United States. With this statement, according to the BBC, she gave the strongest signal so far that she will run for the presidency again in 2028. She rejects polls that consider her an outsider in the race for the Democratic Party nomination.
Evaluation of the past and plans
“I’m not done yet,” the politician emphasized, adding that she has dedicated her entire career to service. “It’s part of my nature and there are many ways to serve. I haven’t decided what I’m going to do in the future, apart from what I’m doing now,” she added in the first interview with the British media, which will be broadcast in full on Sunday.
According to AFP, the former prosecutor and senator for the state of California gave the interview a month after the release of her memoirs, in which she claimed, among other things, that it was irresponsible to let ex-president Joe Biden defend the mandate in last year’s November elections.
Harris’ presidential ambitions
Today, 82-year-old Biden finally withdrew from the race for the White House in July – about three months before the election – after a poor performance in a debate with his rival and the current head of state, Donald Trump. Subsequently, instead of Biden, Harris was a candidate for the Democratic Party, who was defeated in the fight with the Republican.
Harris had the shortest presidential campaign in modern US history. It lasted exactly 107 days, which is also the title of her memoir. In the book, she accuses Biden’s team of not supporting her when she was vice president of the United States. She was the first woman to hold this post, as well as the first American of black and Asian descent.
