Madureira Assembly of God declares support for Jorge Messias for the Supreme Court

The National Convention of the Assemblies of God of Madureira (Conamad) declared this Friday, the 24th, support for the Union’s attorney general, Jorge Messias, considered to take up a vacancy in the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in the vacancy of retired minister Luis Roberto Barroso.

The support was announced after the meeting of Conamad religious leaders with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), which took place last week at Palácio do Planalto. Bishop Samuel Ferreira, president of Conamad, and deputy Cezinha de Madureira (PSD-SP), and Messias participated in the meeting.

“Conamad publicly expresses its recognition of the trajectory of minister Jorge Messias, a man of faith, an exemplary jurist and a servant committed to the highest values ​​of public life”, wrote Bishop Samuel in a note with Conamad.

The post adds that Messias’ journey is inspiring: “His trajectory inspires respect for uniting technique and spirituality, reason and sensitivity, prudence and courage – rare virtues in times of so much division.”

“His eventual appointment to the Federal Supreme Court represents not only the crowning of a career marked by competence and moral integrity, but also a symbolic gesture of appreciation to those who reconcile faith and service to the Nation”, he added.

“The story of Minister Messias is a testimony that legal knowledge can go hand in hand with the Christian faith, and that public service is a vocation, not a privilege; a mission, not a stage for vanities”, he concluded.

The Madureira Assembly of God is the second largest denomination of the Assemblies of God in Brazil, behind only that of Belém, led by pastor José Wellington.

Messias is among the names being considered to take over Barroso’s position, who left his position at the Federal Supreme Court at the age of 67, an early retirement, as compulsory retirement would be at the age of 75.
