Russia, led by President Putin, tested the nuclear-powered Burevestnik intercontinental missile. According to the claim, the missile has a unique range and durability.
According to the President of the country, Vladimir Putin, Russia has successfully tested the Burevestnik (Whirlwind) intercontinental ballistic missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads. Putin announced this on Sunday after visiting one of the headquarters of Russian forces active in the fighting in Ukraine, where he met with Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov. TASR informs about it according to the reports of TASS, Reuters AFP.
Gerasimov announced that the missile was tested on October 21, flew 14,000 kilometers and was in the air for about 15 hours. According to him, the Burevestnik was flying on nuclear power, and the head of the Russian army claims that no air defense systems can shoot it down.
Putin’s reaction to the test
“It is a unique weapon that no one else in the world has,” Putin said, adding that the missile has an almost unlimited range and is unmatched. He ordered the military to begin building the infrastructure needed for its deployment.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that “the president, together with the chief of the general staff, Gerasimov, attended a meeting with the commanders of the combat groups involved in the special military operation.” Russian officials use the term special military operation to refer to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which Russia launched in February 2022. According to Peskov, Putin was fully informed about the current situation on the front line.
A call to cut losses
The Russian president urged the army command to take measures to minimize human losses on the battlefield, as the safety of Russian soldiers is a priority. He also called for measures to be taken to allow Ukrainian soldiers to voluntarily surrender.
