The conflict is escalating: Trump refuses to meet with Putin because of his reluctance to solve the Ukrainian conflict!

On board Air Force One, October 25, 2025 (AFP) – US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that does not schedule any interviews with its Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin until it becomes clear that the head of the Kremlin is serious about concluding an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. It was reported by the AFP agency.

“I need to know we’re going to make a deal. I’m not going to waste any time.” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, which was headed to the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, where the three-day summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will begin on Sunday.

“I’ve always had a great relationship with Vladimir Putin, but this was a big disappointment,” Trump said. As he added, he thought so it will be possible to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine before signing the agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

On Wednesday, the US imposed sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, and 34 of their subsidiaries. Trump criticized the same day that his talks with Putin about the conflict in Ukraine “go nowhere”. At the same time, he announced that he canceled the planned meeting with Putin in Budapest, which was to be held in the next few days. However, he expressed the hope that the sanctions will be short-lived and that the war will be over.

Putin admitted that the US sanctions are “serious”, but according to him they will not be enough to significantly damage the Russian economy. He labeled them as a “hostile act” that will not strengthen relations between Russia and the US, “which have only begun to recover.” He added that he remains open to dialogue with Trump.

In parallel with the US measures, the member states of the European Union adopted 19th package of sanctions against Russia for its aggression in Ukraine. The new set of restrictive measures includes, among other things gradual ban on the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia.
