French police arrested 2 men on Saturday night (Oct 25, 2025) of historical pieces from the Louvre Museum (Paris), on October 19th.
One of them was detained at Charles-de-Gaulle airport, around 10pm local time (5pm Brasília time), while preparing to leave the country for Algeria. French police did not say where the second suspect was arrested, but said he planned to flee to Mali.
The French newspaper stated that one of the suspects is French-Algerian and the other is French. Both are in custody at the headquarters of the French Judicial Police Directorate and are being investigated for organized theft and criminal conspiracy. The French press reported that the jewelry was not found on the suspects.

CRIME NO LOUVRE
The crime took place on October 19, at the Apollo Gallery, a section of the Louvre that houses the French Crown’s royal collection of precious stones and diamonds.
According to authorities, the criminals of the museum, broke into windows and showcases, and fled in about 7 minutes. One of the stolen pieces was recovered, but was damaged, said Culture Minister Rachida Dati.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez classified the episode as a “major theft of priceless jewels, part of the country’s true historical heritage”. He said the suspects appeared to have planned the action in advance and .
The investigation is led by the BRB (Paris Anti-Bandit Brigade) and the (Central Office to Combat Trafficking in Cultural Goods). Suspects can be interrogated for up to 96 hours.
The Louvre is the most visited museum in the world and houses more than 33,000 works, including paintings, sculptures and antiquities.
