Chancellor Mauro Vieira took stock this Monday (27) of the activities of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in Southeast Asia and confirmed that negotiations with the United States that aim to reverse the tariff imposed by Washington should advance in the coming weeks.
Vieira stated that Lula’s trip, which began in Indonesia and ended in Malaysia, marked the beginning of a new stage in bilateral dialogue between the two countries. According to him, working groups have already been created to detail the points of the agreement and define a meeting schedule.
The executive secretary of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC), Márcio Rosa, also confirmed that conversations with American interlocutors are ongoing and highlighted that the climate is favorable.
“The scenario is more positive because there is a political determination for an agreement to be reached,” he said.

According to Rosa, a Brazilian technical team will head to Washington next week to continue the negotiations. The secretary highlighted that there are still no specific sectoral negotiations, because the government’s intention is to achieve the total removal of tariffs on Brazilian products.
Vieira reinforced that the discussions are strictly technical and economic in nature, with the political and ideological part removed from the negotiation table, in an attempt to reduce tensions and focus on the direct impacts on bilateral trade.
