Bus falls off bridge in Argentina and leaves at least 9 dead

The accident occurred in the province of Misiones, near the border with Brazil and Paraguay

An accident with a double-decker bus left 9 dead and 29 injured this Sunday (26.Oct.2025) in Misiones province, in northern Argentina. According to local authorities, the vehicle lost control after colliding with a car, broke through the metal barriers of the bridge and fell into the bed of a stream.

The causes of the accident are being investigated. The main hypothesis is that the head-on collision between the bus and the car occurred after an attempted prohibited overtaking or loss of control of one of the vehicles. Video circulating online shows the bus in the creek bed.

The province of Misiones is a mountainous region with winding roads and heavy traffic of cargo and passenger vehicles. Highway 14, where the accident occurred, is one of the main land connections between the center and north of Argentina, used by those traveling towards Brazil and Paraguay.

PASSENGERS WITHOUT IDENTIFICATION

The company responsible for the bus did not have a list of passengers, which made it difficult to identify the victims. The vehicle was carrying out an interstate service, which allows boarding and disembarking along the route, a common practice in regions of the Argentine interior. Therefore, the exact number of occupants at the time of the accident is still unknown.
