The Minister of Institutional Relations, (PT), stated that the meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the President of the United States, in Malaysia, allowed progress in negotiations on the tariffs applied by the USA to Brazilian products. According to her, the meeting also opened up space to discuss issues related to — which provides for sanctions on individuals accused of violating human rights — and topics related to political stability in South America.
“Lula showed once again how a true leader should act, defending the interests of the country and the region, without giving up national sovereignty and with personal dignity,” wrote Gleisi on his account on X (formerly Twitter). The minister also mentioned that, months ago, allies of former president Jair Bolsonaro celebrated the punishments imposed on Brazil.
Also on X, the Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, stated that the president demonstrated “strength and capacity for dialogue” during the meeting. For him, talking to leaders from different positions is important to bring countries together and transform differences into opportunities.
