A healthy diet should be rich in a variety of vegetables and fruits, thanks to which we will provide the body with the necessary vitamins and minerals, as well as valuable antioxidants and dietary fiber. Today we will take a closer look romanceeco, or green cauliflower, which is distinguished by its unusual structure, resembling a logarithmic spiral. Properly prepared, it not only tastes delicious, but also helps take care of your bones and skin.

Green romanesco cauliflower many people perceive it as a culinary novelty. Interestingly, it is believed to have been known even before cauliflower. In Italy, specifically near Rome, it was cultivated already in the 16th century, hence its name. Nowadays it is also called kgreen alaflower, apple broccoli or Roman broccoli. You can also come across the name broccoflowerbecause romanesco was probably created from a cross between broccoli, “broccoli” in English, and cauliflower, “cauliflower”.

What does Romanesco cauliflower taste like? For many people, this vegetable can be compared to a cross between classic cauliflower and broccoli. It does, however much more delicate taste than its white cousin, without a bitter aftertaste. Some people sense it in him too nutty notes. It is not very popular in Poland, but people from Italy, France, the Netherlands and Germany like to eat it.

Like traditional broccoli or cauliflower, romanesco is a very healthy vegetable. He is present here dietary fiber, which helps ensure proper digestion, supports intestinal health, and stabilizes blood sugar and cholesterol levels. There is no shortage here as well valuable antioxidants that neutralize the harmful effects of free radicals, they reduce oxidative stress, reduce inflammation and delay premature aging processes. Present in romanesco chlorophys shows an antitumoral potence.

This vegetable will also be an excellent choice for people on a slimming diet and those who have problems with too high blood sugar levels. It contains only about 30 kcal per 100 g and has a low glycemic index.

In romanesco you will also find a complex of vitamins and minerals, including:

  • vitamin C – has an antioxidant effect, supports immunity, has a beneficial effect on blood vessels, collagen synthesis and iron absorption,
  • vitamin A – supports eye health and skin condition, is also an antioxidant,
  • B vitamins – necessary for the proper functioning of the circulatory, nervous and muscular systems,
  • vitamin K – is responsible for proper blood clotting and also contributes to the proper condition of the skeletal system,
  • calcium – strengthens bones and teeth, supports proper muscle function,
  • iron – helps prevent anemia,
  • potassium – affects proper blood pressure, helps maintain water and electrolyte balance,
  • magnesium – supports the proper functioning of the heart, muscles and brain, improves the quality of sleep, and helps avoid muscle cramps.

Traditional white cauliflower appears quite often in Polish kitchens. Most often, we add it to soups or serve it with breadcrumbs fried in butter. Those who like culinary experiments serve it in the form of a steak. But do you know How to prepare Romanceco cauliflower? You can do it in several ways, suitable for cooking, frying and baking.

Of course, it will work great as substitute for broccoli and cauliflower, fits:

  • salads – just mix the cooked Romanesco florets with diced feta cheese, roasted sunflower seeds, a boiled egg and a bit of yogurt-garlic dressing – a few tablespoons of Greek yogurt, pressed garlic, some lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste,
  • pasta – serve cooked pasta with a sauce based on cream, blue cheese and cooked Romanesco cauliflower,
  • soup – add it to a classic vegetable soup with vegetable broth, or prepare a cream soup with onion and garlic,
  • casserole – combine it with chicken and bake under a cheese crust.

You can also, simply cook the romaneso in water. Add the romanesco divided into florets into boiling salted water for about 10 minutes.

Romanesco will work well in many everyday recipes. It will provide many vitamins, minerals and fiber, and will also look beautiful on the plate. The interesting shape of cauliflower florets can tempt even the pickiest eaters.
