Vilnius was closed again tonight because weather balloons passed through its airspace, the Baltic country’s National Crisis Management Center announced.
.
The airport will remain closed until 02:00 on Sunday, Greek time.
In recent weeks airports across Europe, including in Copenhagen, Munich and the Baltic countries, have been closed due to sightings of drones and other objects in their airspace.
Lithuania says the balloons are used to smuggle cigarettes, but at the same time blames the president of Belarus and a close ally of Vladimir Putin, Alexander Lukashenko, for not stopping the practice.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene said Friday that the National Security Committee will meet next week to discuss the situation.
