The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced this Monday, the 27th, that she will extend trade negotiations with the USA for “a few more weeks”, after speaking by telephone with the North American president, Donald Trump, on Saturday, the 25th. In a daily press conference, Sheinbaum stated that the countries need time to resolve 54 pending trade barriers, which cover the commercial, energy and agricultural sectors.
“We’re going to talk again in a few weeks because we’re pretty much done with this issue. Our deadline was in November, so I spoke briefly on Saturday and we agreed to continue working,” she explained.
When questioned, she said that the agreement respects Mexico’s sovereignty and that the country will not “be subordinated to anyone”. “We will never agree with an intervention in our country. Any conflict must be resolved through dialogue and peace”, he stated.
