Rain and new cold front: country will have unstable weather this week

One new cold front hits the country this Monday (27). According to Climatempo, storms may occur in the South, Southeast and Central-West regions of Brazil.

There is no forecast of a sharp drop in temperature in the Center-South region, but there is a risk of strong drops in part of the Southeast and Center-West of the country.

The forecast is that from Tuesday (28), this cold front will advance along the coast of São Paulo, and on Wednesday (29) it will follow the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, reaching Espírito Santo between Thursday and Friday.

Areas of cold front instability can cause storms in the region of Greater Curitiba, Central-East, North and West of Paraná. Heavy and moderate rains hit the Southwest and South of the state. There is also a risk of storms in the mountains and on the coast of Santa Catarina and in the Itajaí Valley.

In the extreme north of Rio Grande do Sul it may still rain with moderate to heavy intensity in some places, but most areas of Rio Grande do Sul will no longer be affected by the areas of instability of this cold front.

Regions of São Paulo close to the border with Paraná are on alert for storms, such as the municipalities of Presidente Prudente and Ourinhos. Rain happens early in these regions. In Greater São Paulo, there is a risk of moderate to heavy rain showers along the coast and in other areas of the interior of São Paulo, especially in the afternoon and at night.

Some moderate and heavy rain showers may occur from the afternoon onwards in Triângulo Mineiro, Sul de Minas, Zona da Mata Mineira, Grande Rio and in almost all regions of Rio de Janeiro.

In the Central-West region of the country, it stimulates an increase in instability in Mato Grosso do Sul, and in some areas of Mato Grosso and Goiás.

Record cold in October

Exceptionally low temperatures, recorded in some Brazilian capitals this month, had not been observed for decades. Late events occurred in the three states of the South Region and in higher places in the Mantiqueira mountain range, in the Southeast.

The prolonged presence of cold air of polar origin over the South and Southeast of Brazil, combined with days of cloudiness and rain, left temperatures below normal. Low temperatures also managed to advance over areas of Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás and southern Bahia.

In the North of Brazil and the Northwest of Mato Grosso, below-average temperatures are associated with excessive cloudiness and frequent rain throughout the month of October. In the last week of the month, the cold appears again due to the increase in cloudiness and rain.
