Heavy snowfall is currently affecting several areas of the Czech Republic, Austria and Germany, with the snow covering mainly higher-lying cities and towns. This is the most intense snowfall before the start of the winter season. According to the portal, the white blanket will also appear in our area.
The weather in our area is currently affected by a large precipitation field associated with an occlusion front, which brings precipitation to practically all the surrounding countries. They are now gradually moving from the northwest to our territory.
The heaviest snowfall since the beginning of this season is currently occurring west of Slovakia. Snow covers areas from 700 meters above sea level and gradually reaches us. The worst situation prevails in the west of Austria, where snowfall has already reached areas from 600 meters. The snow is accumulating at a fast pace and many towns and villages at this altitude are already under a snow cover.
For example, it snows heavily in the Arlberg region, where the winter landscape turns into a true snow fairy tale. Intense snowfall also affects other parts of Tyrolwhere the police urge drivers to be more careful. In some areas it has already occurred more than 40 cm of new snow, which significantly complicates transport and everyday life.
Neighboring Czech Republic is not bypassed by snowfall either. It was already causing problems in the Ore Mountains area yesterday, and today it has spread to other regions. For example, the Červenohorské sedlo in Jeseníky was covered with snowwhere the winter scenery is gaining in intensity.
The current penetration of cold air, which should flow into our area until tomorrow, is responsible for the snowfall. The snowfall will continue and the situation will worsen especially in the Alps.
Our territory is also preparing for snow. Similar to the Czech Republic or Austria, it will be the heaviest snowfall since the beginning of the season. Precipitation is already moving from the northwest over Slovakia, which will be liquid in most cases, but above 900 meters above sea level it should change to snow.
That means that the white blanket will also affect the more populated areas of Slovakia. The most snow is expected on our mountains, where up to 20 cm can fall. The heaviest snowfall is predicted for this early evening, when the situation may worsen significantly.
