Over the last few months, Russia has decided to test NATO with its drones and fighter planes by carrying out incursions into airspace from different countries like Poland, Romania, Denmark or Estonia.
Precisely, the president of that last country (Estonia), Alar Karisrecently granted an interview to in which he warned that NATO should prepare for a “different kind of war” with Russia.
According to Karis, although the country led by Vladimir Putin has not militarily attacked any country of the Atlantic Alliance, the reality is that Russia has recently launched a “hybrid war” against NATO.
In this sense, the president of Estonia has warned that “Putin constantly tests us”a fact that the president has exemplified by citing that “we have your drone in Poland, drones in Romania, in Denmark. We have this fighter plane in Estonia, this is a hybrid war. There is also, etc. “This is what Russia is doing.”
In this regard, Alar Karis has assured that “This war in Ukraine is not just a war against Ukraine, it is against Europe, it is against the entire Western world”. However, the president of Estonia added that “I don’t think Russia is going to attack a NATO country or any other country in Europebut still, we have to be prepared to deter, but Russia does not test Article 5 in any country.
Regarding the possibility that after more than three and a half years of war in Ukraine a peace agreement can be reached that puts an end to the armed conflict, Karis has pointed out that “it is very difficult to predict what the next step will be, but one is certain: “Ukraine wants peace, we want peace… everyone wants peace, but not Putin.”
