The president of Cameroon, Paul Biya, 92 years old, was re-elected for an 8th term, with 53.66% of the votes, against 35.19% for Issa Tchiroma Bakary, according to results released this Monday (27.Oct.2025). In power since 1982, Biya is the oldest serving ruler in the world.
Biya has governed the country for 43 years and ended presidential term limits in 2008, allowing him to continue in office indefinitely. Each term in the African country lasts 7 years.

Tchiroma, a former government spokesman and former labor minister, broke with Biya in early 2025 and became leader of an opposition coalition. He and his supporters claim that there was fraud in the election.
The opposition says economic stagnation and discontent among young people have driven the growth of the movement for change.
