Brazilian fighter asks to leave the UFC rankings; understand

Brazilian Valter Walker, 27 years old, is one of the UFC’s new sensations. Last Saturday (25), in Abu Dhabi, he achieved his fourth consecutive victory via submission in the first round, all via heel hook. After another positive result, he made an unusual request: to be removed from the heavyweight category ranking, where he occupies 15th position.

Walker’s explanation is simple: he believes he is not yet ready to be a champion. He also set a deadline to present the best version of his career.

“I don’t even want to be in the rankings. Please, take me out of the rankings. I’m not ready to be the champion. If the UFC wants the best version of Valter Walker, a Valter Walker champion conquering three nations at the same time, it will be when I’m around 30, 31 years old, because I’ll be ready psychologically and with mature muscles”, said the fighter.

“For now, I’m not ready to face ranked and to be in the rankings. If our plans work out, I’ll have the best version of Valter Walker. If not, it’s you who play the music, UFC. I never chose to fight and I never will. Play the music and I’ll dance, I’m a UFC soldier”, he added.

After debuting with a defeat in the league, the Brazilian fighter amended his current streak of four straight victories. The tendency is for him to rise in the rankings after the positive result against Louie Sutherland.
