9-day trip to reach COP30 will have stops for research and cultural events; will end on November 6th
The boat Iaraçu will leave this Tuesday (October 28, 2025) from Manaus with 20 French and Brazilian scientists. It will arrive in Belém on November 6th. The members of the trip will participate in events at COP30 (United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change), which will be from November 10th to 21st.
The trip is organized by the (French acronym for Research and Development Institute), a public organization, the Franco-Brazilian Center for Amazonian Biodiversity and the French Embassy in Brazil. It has the support of Brazilian institutions. The boat was rented and will be moored in Belém at (Federal University of Pará) until November 13th.
Scientists will carry out cultural and research activities on the route, which can be accompanied by a , in Portuguese.
There will be stops in 8 cities in Amazonas and Pará on the route. The French ambassador to Brazil, Emmanuel Lenain, participated in the boat launching ceremony in Manaus on Monday (Oct 27).
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INDIGENOUS PEOPLE
Lenain and Denise de Carvalho, president of the (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Persons), signed a cooperation agreement for the Guatá Program on Monday (Oct 27) in Manaus. The objective is to offer 20 doctoral scholarships to indigenous people in France.
These will be sandwich scholarships, with a 9-month stay in French higher education institutions. The scholarships will be offered to indigenous people who are in doctoral programs at Brazilian universities.
