The Red Cross, one of its personnel and an Egyptian team are searching for the remains of hostages held after the October 7, 2023 attack on , the Israeli government announced today.
Search teams equipped with backhoes were given permission by Israeli authorities to enter “beyond the yellow line, under the close supervision of the Israeli military to locate the location of our hostages,” government spokeswoman Sosh Bedrossian said.
A source at the Red Cross confirmed that the international aid organization is participating in these investigations.
At the same time, the armed wing of Hamas announced that it would hand over the body of a 16th hostage that it recovered this evening.
In a message on their Telegram channel, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades clarified that the body will be delivered “today in the Gaza Strip at 9 o’clock in the evening”.
Hamas released the last 20 hostages alive on October 13. It was also due to hand over the 28 bodies of prisoners it is holding on the same date, but has so far returned 15, citing difficulties in locating the remains in the war-torn Palestinian enclave.
