Upon turning 80 this Monday (27), (PT) became the first octogenarian to occupy the Presidency of the Republic in Brazil
The PT member celebrated his birthday this Monday in Malaysia, due to the official visit he has been making since last Wednesday (22) to South Asian countries, where he is participating in the Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations, in Portuguese) meeting.
Lula was born on October 27, 1945 in Garanhuns (PE). The second oldest to command the Executive in the country was Michel Temer (MDB), who turned 78 during his period in government.
Among the most notable greetings to the PT member was that of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, 79, who referred to Lula as , after meeting with the PT member to discuss the trade tariffs imposed on Brazil.
“And happy birthday. I want to wish the president a happy birthday, right? Today is his birthday,” said the Republican. “He’s a very vigorous guy, actually, and it was very impressive, but today is his birthday, so happy birthday.”
Lula received other birthday tributes during the trip. This Monday night in Malaysia, heads of state participating in the Asean summit congratulated the Brazilian during a ceremony hosted by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim.
Previously, the Brazilian received one on Thursday (23) with the leader of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, who turned 74 on October 17.
Lula’s official account published a video of the party, in which guests sang congratulations in English, while the PT member blew out the candles on a cake with chocolate syrup decorated with macarons. In the images, the Brazilian offers the first piece to Prabowo and then cuts a second for his wife, the first lady.
Lula’s communications team and himself have sought to present an image of vitality and vigor for the president, who has already announced his intention to seek re-election next year.
On the Presidency’s official social networks, it is common to see posts of Lula doing physical exercises or running along the Planalto Palace ramp after participating in public events.
Since he suffered an accident in the bathroom of his official residence, Palácio da Alvorada, at the end of 2024, the PT member has intensified his public discourse on self-care and health, even stating that he would only run for a fourth term if he was in good health to do so.
