Mateus Simões joins Gilberto Kassab’s party and aims to run for the Minas Gerais government in 2026
The vice-governor of Minas Gerais, officially joined the PSD (Social Democratic Party) in a ceremony held this Monday (27.Oct.2025) in Belo Horizonte (MG). The party change aims to strengthen the chances in the dispute for the Minas Gerais government in the 2026 elections.
The event was attended by the governor (New) and the national president of the PSD, . Simões leaves Zema’s Novo party in search of a party structure with more propaganda time and a broader political base in the state.
The ceremony, which adopted the slogan “Together for Minas”, brought together several politicians. Present were:
- state president of the PSD, deputy Cássio Soares;
- party leader in the Chamber, Antonio Brito;
- governor of Sergipe, Fábio Mitidieri;
- Mayor of Uberaba, Elisa Araújo;
- government secretary of Minas Gerais, Marcelo Aro;
- president of Novo in Minas Gerais, Christopher Laguna.
On Instagram, Mateus wrote that affiliation is “a new step to continue serving Minas”.
“With dialogue, responsibility and commitment to the people of Minas Gerais, we continue to advance in the purpose of making politics with results reais”.
