Was there medical malpractice?

After the death of his partner, a devastated husband has filed a complaint against the private hospital in Dehradun, India, where their son was born, and the doctors who performed the caesarean section. Authorities have also started investigating the incident, which is trying to assess whether there was negligence on the part of the medical professionals. “We must investigate allegations of malpractice against the hospital where the birth took place,” District Chief Medical Officer Manoj Sharma hinted.

Sharma further emphasized that it is the staff’s responsibility to ensure that all medical instruments and materials are accounted for. “Although the forgotten gauzes cause pain, we need to find out why there was such a long-lasting infection. We need to investigate why this led to the woman’s death. A subpoena was issued to the staff and doctors who performed the surgery“, he added.

A four-member commission headed by Sharma is currently looking into the case pending the post-mortem report. The committee is expected to present its conclusions in the coming days. The hospital in Dehradun is closed during the ongoing investigation.
