Donald Trump plans another summit with Kim: Will history change?

Donald Trump hinted at a close meeting with Kim. He summarized the developments so far and the current situation in the issues of denuclearization on his Asian tour.

US President Donald Trump indicated on Wednesday that he may soon return to Asia to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. TASR informs about it according to world agencies.

“We will meet at some point. The schedule is very busy … We will come back and in the not-too-distant future we will meet with North Korea,” Trump said on a flight from Tokyo to the South Korean city of Pusan, where he begins a two-day visit as part of his Asian tour.

DPRK missile tests

According to the AP agency, he also played down the latest missile tests that North Korea conducted on Tuesday. “He’s been launching missiles for decades, hasn’t he?” Trump said, referring to Kim.

The head of the White House reiterated that he would like to meet with the leader of the DPRK again because, according to him, “they got along well.” The two leaders met three times during Trump’s first term in an effort to reach an agreement on North Korea’s denuclearization. However, the negotiations ended without a result due to disagreements on how to reconcile the DPRK’s steps towards denuclearization with US concessions, including the easing of sanctions, Jonhap recalls.

Plans for a new meeting

Trump recently said he would “love to meet” Kim during his current visit to Asia, his first in his second term as president. Before South Korea, he also visited Malaysia and Japan.
