Governor of Rio de Janeiro stated that he will not respond to “authorities that want to play politics” and defended the operation with more than 130 deaths
Without directly citing the government of the president (PT), the governor of Rio de Janeiro, (PL) declared this Wednesday (29.Oct.2025) that he will not accept political interference in the conduct of public security in the State and that only those who want “add” will be welcome in the State.
“Anyone who wants to come here with the intention of helping, whether governor, minister, any authority, is welcome. Anyone who wants to join Rio de Janeiro at this moment in the fight against crime is welcome. Others, who want to create confusion and politicking, disappear. Either add, or disappear, because we don’t need that at the moment”he said in an interview with journalists.
The declaration was made 1 day after the one in the Penha and Alemão complexes targeting the CV (Comando Vermelho), considered the most lethal in the history of the State. The government confirmed 119 deaths. According to the Public Defender’s Office of Rio, however, the number already exceeds 130.
Castro also declared that the Rio de Janeiro government will not respond to criticism from federal authorities and called for unity in combating crime. “The governor of this State and no secretary will respond to a minister or authority who wants to turn this moment into a political battle”he declared.
He said again that the operation was a “success” and that the river “go ahead” in the fight against organized crime, but “you can’t fight alone”.
“We have shown that we are capable of winning battles, but also the humility to recognize that this war will not be won alone”he stated.

One, dated January 28, 2025, shows that the State asked the federal government for support for operations in risk areas, such as the one triggered in the Penha and Alemão complexes. The document was sent to the Minister of Defense, José Múcio, and requested logistical support from the Navy with the supply of armored vehicles.
The action on Tuesday (Oct. 28) is the most lethal in Rio de Janeiro’s history, with 119 deaths, according to the Government of Rio de Janeiro. Cláudio Castro officially confirmed 58 deaths – 54 criminals and 4 police officers.
The Ministry of Justice, led by , stated that all requests from the Rio government regarding the National Public Security Force have been met since 2023. The president (PT) maintains his position against the decree of GLO (Guarantee of Law and Order), an instrument that authorizes the use of the Armed Forces in public security operations.
