To keep the flowers healthy, you must be careful not to scratch the surface. To shine orchid leaves, use standing water mixed with a few drops of lemon juice. Wipe the leaves with this mixture using cotton pads or a soft cloth. Lemon water can also be used as a conditioner for orchids. Lemon changes the water’s reaction to acidic, and many species of orchids feel great in such an environment.

Fertilization is an important issue when caring for orchids. Sometimes flowers do not bloom because of incorrectly selected fertilizer. It is best to fertilize orchids with specialized preparations that need to be diluted with water. It is important to apply the appropriate amount of the preparation. If there is too little of it, the orchid will not bloom, too much will only cause the roots to grow. Orchids should be fertilized 2-3 times a week. When it comes to where to place the flowers, some varieties prefer partial shade, such as Phalaenopsis orchids, while others will grow better in full sun. Generally, orchids are thermophilic flowers. Ideally, we place them in a slightly shaded place and at a temperature not lower than 22 degrees C. We must also remember that orchids are very delicate and do not tolerate drafts well. Flowers in a pot also require an appropriate substrate – it must be extremely absorbent and at the same time allow air to pass through. Therefore, the easiest way is to choose a ready-made orchid mixture. However, if we want to prepare the substrate ourselves, it is worth using: pine bark, coconut shells, expanded clay and peat.
