- The Russian envoy announced the possibility of ending the war in Ukraine within a year.
- He called for the prevention of the escalation of the regional conflict into a larger one.
At an investment conference in Saudi Arabia, the special envoy of the Russian president, Kirill Dmitriev, declared that the war in Ukraine could end within a year. TASR informs about it according to a Reuters report. Dmitriyev spoke after meetings with representatives of the administration of US President Donald Trump in the United States, which took place last weekend. His visit followed the postponement of a planned meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We are sure that we are on the road to peace, and as peacemakers we must achieve it,” said Dmitriyev. “I believe so,” Dmitriev answered when asked if it was possible to achieve peace in Ukraine within a year. While in the US, the Russian envoy also emphasized that Russia and the US are close to a “diplomatic solution” to the war.
The special envoy at the investment conference also highlighted the cooperation between the United States, Saudi Arabia and Russia as the largest holders of natural resources in the world. He said that such cooperation will increase security in the world. “People are currently focused on the regional conflict that exists around Russia, but we do not want it to escalate into a larger conflict. That’s why we have to do better than before, not worse,” Dmitriev added.
