- The United States will withdraw a unit of the 101st Airborne Division from Europe.
- The unit will return to base in Kentucky without compensation.
- This move reflects the growing responsibility of European allies for defense.
United States as part of a planned troop rotation they withdraw the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Group of the 101st Airborne Division from Europe. The unit is scheduled to return to its home base in the US state of Kentucky and it will not be replaced by another unit.
According to the Pentagon’s statement, quoted by TASR, it is not a question of withdrawing US forces from Europe or weakening commitments to NATO and Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty. According to Washington, this step should reflect the growing capability and responsibility of European allies in the field of defense. The allies are thus responding to US President Donald Trump’s call for Europe to take more responsibility for its own security.
At the same time, the Ministry of Defense stated that this adjustment in the deployment of forces will not change the security situation in Europe. The United States continues to maintain a large military presence on the continent and has the capacity to rapidly deploy troops based on needs and priorities, including a commitment to defend NATO allies, the statement said.
