South Korean President I Jae-myong praised Trump’s efforts for peace on the Korean Peninsula and awarded him a prestigious award. The award has a significant diplomatic dimension.
On Wednesday, South Korean President Jae-myong received US President Donald Trump, to whom he awarded the highest state award. He also presented him with a replica crown of the rulers of the ancient Korean kingdom of Silla. TASR informs about it according to the agencies AFP and Reuters.
Trump landed in South Korea on Tuesday morning. This is the third and last stop of his tour of East Asian countries. After landing at the airport, the US president was greeted by a military band with their rendition of Trump’s favorite song “YMCA”.
The highest honor
During the meeting, the South Korean president praised Trump’s efforts to achieve peace on the Korean Peninsula. He called the head of the White House a “peacemaker” and awarded him the highest state award, the “Great Order of Mugunghwa”, which is named after the national flower of South Korea – the pink hibiscus. Trump received it as the first American president.
The leaders of the US and South Korea met at a museum in the historic city of Gyeongju in the southeast of the country, which was the center of the historical Silla kingdom. On this occasion too, he presented Trump with a replica of the golden crown of the local kings.
A new era of peace
“It symbolizes the history of the Silla Kingdom, which has maintained a long-term era of peace on the Korean Peninsula. It also symbolizes a new era of peaceful coexistence and common development on the Korean Peninsula, which the United States and South Korea will work towards together,” I said.
AFP reminds that Trump does not hide his admiration for monarchies around the world. This month, more than seven million Americans gathered across the country in No Kings demonstrations to protest what they see as an authoritarian president. Trump responded with an AI-generated video on his Truth Social platform. As a pilot with a crown on his head and the words “KING TRUMP” on his head, he pours a brown, mushy liquid that resembles feces on a crowd of protesters.
A visit to Asia
The American president is on a multi-day visit to the countries of East Asia, where he visited Malaysia and Japan. On Wednesday and Thursday, he will be in South Korea, where, after talks with President Im, he will attend a working dinner of leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). On Thursday, he will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
