The Electoral Attorney General’s Office expressed support for the inclusion of those in an action against () in progress at the (Superior Electoral Court) regarding attacks on the electoral process and the ballot boxes and the dissemination of fake news.
The deputy PGE, Alexandre Espinosa, states that both the request made by the PT to the TSE and the complaint by the (Attorney General’s Office) of the coup plot to the (Supreme Federal Court) deal with similar facts. He did not comment on the merits of this evidence, but supported the request to share the material.
Bolsonaro has already been declared ineligible by the TSE until 2030 in two other actions, regarding meetings with ambassadors and abuse of power on September 7th, and may remain due to conviction in the coup plot.
The target action of the Electoral MP’s demonstration targets Bolsonaro, the then candidate for vice president, and parliamentarians from PL (RJ), (SP), (SP), Bia Kicis (DF), (MG), Gustavo Gayer (GO) and Magno Malta (ES).
The opinion will be analyzed by Minister Isabel Gallotti, General Inspector of Electoral Justice.
“In the two petitions, there is a convergent speech about an attack on the democratic rule of law, democratic rupture, acts of violence and acts of mobilization for coup purposes as a consequence of a strategy of discrediting the electoral system, that is, as the electoral system is corrupted, manipulated, partial and committed to conspiring against the re-election of Jair Messias Bolsonaro, the use of military intervention is the only way for the ‘true’ popular will to be preserved”, says the MP Electoral.
The action was presented by the Brasil da Esperança Coalition, which won the presidential elections in 2022, and deals with abuse of political power and misuse of social media.
The initial points to attacks against the electoral system with the aim of shaking the normality of the dispute and delegitimizing the election for the perpetuation of the political group in power.
In March of this year, the coalition presented a new request, alleging the existence of new facts due to the PGR’s complaint to the Supreme Court. The group argued that the piece revealed that the coup articulation went beyond the discursive field narrated in the initial and materialized into concrete actions, involving members of the Armed Forces and military strategies with illegal espionage and monitoring techniques.
“Analyzing the content of the initial petition, […] in several passages, it makes express reference to the fact that this strategy of discrediting the electoral justice system has the aim (in addition to the engagement of the electorate) to attack the democratic rule of law, alluding to the institutional rupture and the objective of perpetuating the power of the political group of those being investigated (regardless of the electoral result) through a coup d’état. Check out, by the way, excerpts from the initial”, says Espinosa.
PT’s action was presented at the end of 2022 and brings together actions since July 2021, including Bolsonaro’s lives, the meeting with ambassadors in July 2022 and the November 2022 live with , among others.
For the party, attacks on the electoral system increased over time with the participation of several members of Bolsonaro’s political group within the context of maintaining power.
