Flamengo in the final

In search of an unprecedented fourth championship among Brazilian clubs, this Wednesday (29), after drawing 0-0 with Racing, in Argentina.

As they had won the first leg at Maracanã 1-0, Flamengo will play their fourth final in seven years thanks to their aggregate score advantage.

The match at the stadium known as El Cilindro, which hosted a huge party, was marked by many inefficient direct calls from Racing and the controversial expulsion of Flamengo’s Gonzalo Plata 11 minutes into the second half.

The grand final will be at the Monumental stadium in Lima, capital of Peru, on November 29th. The red-black opponent will emerge from the clash between Palmeiras and LDU, this Thursday (29), with a large advantage for the Ecuadorians.

Flamengo holds the Cylinder pressure

Without Pedro, who suffered a fractured forearm in the first game, coach Filipe Luís opted for a lighter team, with Arrascaeta commanding the offensive trio formed by Luiz Araújo, Carrascal and Plata.

The big highlight, however, was the defense, which saw the return of starter Léo Ortiz from injury to form a partnership with Léo Pereira. Both were very demanding, but they were sovereign in the air, as was Rossi.

The first big chance of the game, in fact, came in a rare mistake from the top. Conechy made a good header, but Rossi made a miraculous save and avoided the goal during Racing’s initial pressure.

Flamengo also had its opportunities in the initial stage. Luiz Araújo tried twice with dangerous shots from outside the area and, in the best chance, Arrascaeta ended up finishing in the face of goalkeeper Cambeses.

Plata’s expulsion and low danger pressure

The final stage, of course, was marked by the expulsion of Plata, who will miss the Libertadores final. He tangled with the experienced Marcos Rojo and, on the ground, ended up slapping the Racing defender in the private area.

At first, Chilean referee Piero Maza had not seen the aggression, but was alerted by the linesman and issued a red card, amid much protest from Flamengo.

Voted best on the field, Rossi ensured the tranquility of the red and black defense despite Racing’s sovereign possession of the ball and several random crosses from the Argentines.

In Racing’s big chance, in stoppage time, Flamengo’s Argentine goalkeeper caught Luciano Vietto’s shot inside the area, which still deflected off Emerson Royal, and booked his place in the final.
