The former King of Spain, Juan Carlos, claims in his memoirs that Princess Diana was a cold and measured woman who behaved cordially only in front of journalists and photographers. In a book called Reconciliation, due out next week, too he denied having anything intimate with her. Juan Carlos stated that Diana was “cold, taciturn, measured, except in situations in the presence of the paparazzi”.
Speculations about their relationship have been circulating since the 1980s, when Diana, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry stayed four times at Marivent Palace – the summer residence of the Spanish royal family in Mallorca. According to Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton, the princess was disgusted by the former king. Morton stated that she described him as a very lustful man. And he may have taken revenge on her in his memoirs for scorning him.
Juan Carlos was a sick womanizer and according to Spanish media, the secret service was forced to give him female hormones, to reduce his sexual appetite, because his sexuality became a problem in the performance of state duties. Former police commissioner José Manuel Villarejo made this claim during a parliamentary hearing in 2024.
According to him “the national news center administered female hormones and testosterone inhibitors to the king to suppress his libido because he was considered to be a problem for the state because he was such a passionate person.” His alleged relationship with businesswoman Corinna zu Sayn-Wittgenstein is said to be among the reasons that led to Juan Carles’ abdication in 2014.
